I have had a busy summer and I hope you have too. One of the things that has been keeping me busy is social media. Since I’m a bit of a computer addict anyway, I thought it would be a good idea to volunteer to be the voice of a couple organizations online.
First of all, the Iowa Museum Association already has a good online presence; in addition to the website, IMA’s director already manages a facebook page and a blog. But when the IMA learned that it was in the running to receive $25,000 from to EMC Insurance, I knew that IMA needed to join the twitterverse. (This is essentially a popularity contest so please visit the IMA page and vote everyday!)
So, I volunteered to spearhead @IowaMuseums, a twitter feed for IMA members, the museum community and the general public. Like museums? Why don’t you check it out and follow us today!
The second group I will be promoting online is one of my current employers (well, technically I’m a consultant). The Iowa Jewish Historical Society is looking to expand its online presence, especially since the website is currently down for redesign! (I hate not being able to link to our site–I’ll add the link later when the new site goes live.) So, check out the Jewish Iowa facebook page and look for occasional IJHS-related posts from yours truly. Hopefully this will help spread the word about who we are and what we do.
What are your favorite museum-related social media resources?
[UPDATE 8/23/2011 : Check out the brand new, Iowa Jewish Historical Society facebook page and “like” us today!]
